In this brief but significant book, the authors, a grandfather-grandson team, explore how using positive psychology in everyday interactions can dramatically change our lives. Clifton (coauthor of Now, Discover Your Strengths) and Rath suggest that we all have a bucket within us that needs to be filled with positive experiences, such as recognition or praise. When we're negative toward others, we use a dipper to remove from their buckets and diminish their positive outlook. When we treat others in a positive manner, we fill not only their buckets but ours as well. The authors illustrate how this principle works in the areas of business and management, marriage and other personal relationships and in parenting through studies covering a 40-year span, many in association with the Gallup Poll. While acknowledging that most lives have their share of misfortune, the authors also make clear that how misfortune affects individuals depends largely on their level of positive energy and confidence. The authors also underscore that our human interactions provide most of the joys or disappointments we receive from life. The book comes with a unique access code to www.bucketbook.com, which offers a positive impact assessment and drop-shaped note cards that can be used to give praise and recognition to others. How did you feel after your last interaction with another person?

Did that person -- your spouse, best friend, coworker, or even a stranger -- "fill your bucket" by making you feel more positive? Or did that person "dip from your bucket," leaving you more negative than before?

The #1 New York Times and #1 BusinessWeek bestseller, How Full Is Your Bucket? reveals how even the briefest interactions affect your relationships, productivity, health, and longevity. Organized around a simple metaphor of a dipper and a bucket, and grounded in 50 years of research, this book will show you how to greatly increase the positive moments in your work and your life -- while reducing the negative.

Filled with discoveries, powerful strategies, and engaging stories, How Full Is Your Bucket? is sure to inspire lasting changes and has all the makings of a timeless classic.

Quick, inspirational read Such a great reminder to focus on the positive in others and fill their “buckets” daily. The power of small, positive interactions will have a ripple effect in our families and organizations. I just read this short book while drinking my morning coffee. Great book for people who aren’t big readers.Good read. Be the love. Be kind. Fill others bucket and the cycle will continue.check it out from your local library and if you like it that much then come here and purchase itOh and you have a free code to do a strength test on the website. I'm not being exactly clear but it's included in the book.A Simple, Little Book with Simple Big Solution This book is so wonderful, I ordered one for a gift already and expect to order more as the year goes by. It was an easy read - only a little over a 100 pages of actual reading. The rest is diagrams and worksheets to give you solid ideas for implementing the tools it's selling you.The premise is simple (but not simplistic) yet thorough explanation of how focusing on the positives in our own personalities and those around us can change our world, and everyone's we come into contact with. Not too many hints here, because I can't say it anywhere near as well as the authors have. The free assessment test that comes with the hard copy is invaluable. He practices in Toronto, Canada, and London, England, helping athletes and clients struggling with obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome improve their health.

An integrated and personalized approach to health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset

There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Peak is a groundbreaking book exploring the fundamentals of high performance (not the fads), the importance of consistency (not extreme effort), and the value of patience (not rapid transformation). Dr. Marc Bubbs makes deep science easy to understand, and with information from leading experts who are influencing the top performers in sports on how to achieve world-class success, he lays out the record-breaking feats of athleticism and strategies that are rooted in this personalized approach.

Dr. Bubbs’s performance protocol is for the elite athlete, active individual, strength coach, nutritionist, or practitioner who wants to expand their potential by:

  • Connecting the importance of sleep, digestion, the athlete microbiome, and blood glucose control metrics
  • Creating personalized deep nutrition strategies for building muscle, burning fat, or “making weight” for competition
  • Rethinking nutrition specifically for team sports
  • Learning how elite endurance athletes fuel, including training techniques to boost performance
  • Applying the new science of recovery that enhances performance
  • Emphasizing the tremendous role of emotional intelligence and mindset in overcoming roadblocks and achieving athletic success (the next frontier in performance)
  • Analyzing the qualities of elite leaders and how to develop them authentically

Dr. Bubbs expertly brings together the worlds of health, nutrition, and exercise and synthesizes the salient science into actionable guidance. Regardless if you’re trying to improve your physique, propel your endurance, or improve your team’s record, looking at performance through this lens is absolutely critical for lasting success.

A "must-read" for trainers and for endurance athletes. Evidence-based; combines science with practical aspects of training! Covers basic science of exercise and training, as well as practical aspects. Discusses nutrition, sleep quantity and sleep patterns, nutritional supplement fact vs fiction, recovery, and debunks a lot of lore and legend that have been accepted as training facts for decades.Great info The chapters on Biome and Nutrition is golden. I agree it needs better edit as there are some typos, but great book.Worthwhile; could use better editing I purchased this book as an audiobook and found it so information-dense that I also purchased it in Kindle format--something I rarely do, particularly when there is no whispersync!Overall, the information is very useful. Even though I am not, by any stretch, an elite athlete, I found it fascinating to learn how different athletes in different sports must train. New physiological research findings--and the technologies (such as continual glucose monitoring) that scientists are using to reach those findings--were also very interesting. And there was plenty of information that I could put to use in my own life. For example, I now understand better why whole foods are better than processed foods (and more foods than I realized are "processed" or even "ultraprocessed").Still, there is room for improvement. Marc Bubbs is an ok writer, but I wish his writing had been edited more carefully. Bubbs recounts Zinedine Zidane's "incredulous head butt"--a great story, but "incredulous" is the wrong word. Another time, Bubbs tells us, "Until relatively recently, the awareness of the impact of physical contact on brain health was largely unknown." No, the awareness wasn't unknown, the IMPACT was unknown. Then, while discussing "how to look good naked," Bubbs asks "how many calories should you trim to reach your goals?" and then advises us to follow new research by Kevin Hall, PhD: "aiming for a caloric reduction of 55 kcal/ pound/ day for the general population “reimagines a dynamic relationship between dietary calories and weight loss and presents a more realistic view of the challenges experienced by patients with obesity.""OK, but how is this possible? Let's say I weigh 120 pounds. There's no way I could eat 55 * 120 = 6600 kcals / day in the first place, much less reduce my calories by that amount. Thinking that perhaps a decimal point was missing, or maybe 55 was typed instead of 5, I looked up the citation to JAMA (Bubbs does provide footnotes, which is great). It turns out that this rule isn't supposed to answer the question "how many calories should you trim?" and the researchers do not suggest "aiming for a caloric reduction of 55 kcal/pound/day." Instead, the rule mathematically predicts how many pounds someone will lose before hitting a plateau. Hall et al explain, "For example, a patient who initially cuts 500 kcal per day from their diet and sustains a constant effort to adhere to the intervention would be expected to lose only approximately 9 lbs in total (500 kcal/d divided by 55 kcal/d/lb) with no further weight losses after the plateau." The fact that people need further calorie reduction after hitting a plateau isn't really new, and the entire point isn't very well explained.Overall, the book is well conceived, highly informative, and interesting even to non-athletes. I lowered my rating one star because of editing issues.

Helpful book.Good book Had both of my teen boys read this. Talking to Strangers Free Pdf

ISBN: B07NJCG1XS
Title: Talking to Strangers Pdf What We Should Know About the People We Don't Know

Malcolm Gladwell, host of the podcast Revisionist History and number-one best-selling author of The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, David and Goliath, and What the Dog Saw, offers a powerful examination of our interactions with strangers - and why they often go wrong.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true?

Talking to Strangers is a classically Gladwellian intellectual adventure, a challenging and controversial excursion through history, psychology, and scandals taken straight from the news. He revisits the deceptions of Bernie Madoff, the trial of Amanda Knox, the suicide of Sylvia Plath, the Jerry Sandusky pedophilia scandal at Penn State University, and the death of Sandra Bland - throwing our understanding of these and other stories into doubt. Something is very wrong, Gladwell argues, with the tools and strategies we use to make sense of people we don't know. And because we don't know how to talk to strangers, we are inviting conflict and misunderstanding in ways that have a profound effect on our lives and our world. In his first book since his number one best seller, David and Goliath, Malcolm Gladwell has written a gripping guidebook for troubled times.

"We think we can easily see into the hearts of others based on the flimsiest of clues." Malcolm Gladwell is a gifted writer who engages our minds and emotions in his works of non-fiction. In "Talking to Strangers,” he tells us true stories that, at first, seem to be unrelated. A police stop ends in tragedy; Neville Chamberlain and other political figures famously misconstrued Hitler's bellicose intentions; experienced judges grant bail to defendants who, they realize too late, should have remained in jail; the sociopath, Bernie Madoff, conducted a fraudulent investment scheme for years, deceiving many individuals who thought that he was a genius at making money; Amanda Knox served prison time for a murder that she did not commit.Studies show that most of us who encounter apparently benevolent individuals are predisposed to believe that they are not putting on an act. Conversely, when we meet a man or woman who behaves weirdly or inappropriately, we are likely to jump to negative conclusions about him or her, even when there is little hard evidence to support our assumptions. The author suggests that many of us have an inflated opinion of our ability to size up people. Research suggests that we are not as objective as we would like to believe, and are therefore prone to misinterpret comments, intonations, facial expressions, and gestures. Moreover, we do not always realize that people whose backgrounds differ from ours may communicate in unfamiliar ways.Gladwell asks: How did double-agents who telegraphed their guilt get away with their treasonous behavior for so long? Why didn't everyone recognize Madoff for what he is—a ruthless swindler? Which of Amanda Knox's personality traits, remarks, and deeds convinced Italian authorities that she killed her roommate? These compelling examples raise intriguing questions about why we sometimes reach erroneous conclusions when we assess the truthfulness of our fellow human beings. it should be noted that a few chapters in this book—such as the essays on suicide, young adults who drink so heavily that they black out, and the efforts of police to cut down on crime—are thought-provoking but oversimplified and not particularly relevant to Gladwell's central premise. Still, this work of non-fiction is an entertaining and enlightening wake-up call. We should be cautious when we decide who our friends are as opposed to who is likely to stab us in the back. Too often we are dead wrong.Doesn't deliver. As one reviewer mentioned, the Interlude and the section on Brock Turner are absolutely cringeworthy for a host of reasons. I too almost stopped reading before the I got to the first chapter, and now I'm sort of disappointed that I read all the way to the end. Fascinating facts are revealed in typical Gladwell fashion which keeps the pace moving. But he comes terribly short on providing any sort of value for actually talking to strangers. Gladwell basically says, "Hey! We suck at talking to strangers. Here's some interesting situations that prove my point. But I have no ideas on how to be better at talking to strangers."Better on Audible than on Kindle or Hardcover. It's odd to see some of the reviews. I waited until I actually finished the book before adding some thoughts here.If you are new to Gladwell, you will greatly enjoy "Talking to Strangers"... as it is a must read for anybody who needs to make snap judgements about people's character and behavior.Of course, if you are a fan of Gladwell, you will of course enjoy it, especially if you hear it on Audible. Gladwell produces the Audible version as if it was an extended episode of his "Revisionist History" Podcast. The music and all the extra interviews from actual people, really brings the book to life.Heck... if you don't like it, return it... though if you start, you will probably keep it.Enjoy!

What's The Deal With The Price? I bought 20 of these for my puppy training class in June 2018 at $4.67 each, a fair price for what is essentially a PAMPHLET with the same training techniques one can get for free off the internet. But it was reasonable and useful. I just now went in to my Prime Account to purchase 20 more only to discover they have MORE THAN DOUBLED IN PRICE at $8.99. I would have given 5 stars for content, but I truly loathe getting conned. I'll find another PAMPHLET to buy by the case.Learned a lot about puppies and dogs Great book for beginners on puppies! My puppy is pretty good about trying not to pee in the house but she is only 2 months old so I will be more strict when she is older. This book has taught me a lot about dogs and puppies. I would recommend this for anyone who has a dogGreat book. Took me about 6 weeks to get ... Great book. Took me about 6 weeks to get her "completely" potty trained. She was 8 1/2 months old when I got her and still had accidents fairly frequently. I followed the book, got her on a schedule, and she has not gone in the house for 1 year and two days and has the run of the house when I'm gone! Thanks!

“Anger Management Workbook for Kids is a comprehensive compilation of exercises aimed at identifying anger and its triggers and finding tools to deal with the frustrations that lead to an outburst or hurt feelings. Samantha Snowden uses all types of identifiable situations that children find in everyday life, and includes easy charts and formulas that show how to head off anger by learning the triggers. She furthers the experience by teaching what causes those feelings, both physically and emotionally, as well as exploring possible unwanted consequences. This book is a must-read for parents, educators, and children, and should enable all readers to find the monster that anger can become, remove its fangs, and reduce its power forever.”―Carole P. Roman, author of Mindfulness for Kids“With this workbook, Samantha Snowden has provided a rich and useful set of practices to help develop the skills to notice and manage our internal states. Once kids start to develop a sense of freedom from their own emotions―not by ignoring them or pushing them away, but by validating the processes and circumstances that are creating them―great self-regulation skills can start to develop…The exercises and readings in this book will help kids of all ages break through the habit of automatic reactions, provide tools for labeling and understanding how their anger and discomfort work, and support them on the path of learning to be comfortable with their own emotions.”―Andrew Hill, PhD, Founding Director of the Peak Brain Institute and UCLA Lecturer in Psychology“As a former teacher and school counselor, I find Samantha Snowden's The Anger Management Workbook for Kids to be an incredible resource and tool to help kids go beyond managing anger to replacing it with choices that help them thrive. This useful workbook is thorough, yet not heavy in any way. Snowden has performed a beautiful balancing act with this book, providing kids with information; exploration and interaction; and activities, strategies, and skills that they can take out of the workbook and into their lives. The workbook is inviting and non-judgmental―kids don't feel accused or like adults want to "fix" them. In a gentle yet honest and frank way, this book helps kids explore their anger (thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and behaviors), its causes, and its consequences. I highly recommend this book for any child whose anger is overpowering and interfering in their life. With its approach that neither shames nor reprimands, kids will develop understanding and skills that will help now and as they grow into adults.”―Tanya J. Peterson, MS, NCC, author of eight mental health books, including The Mindfulness Workbook for Anxiety“Samantha Snowden has created an engaging, thoughtful workbook for kids who are interested in exploring exactly what is taking place inside our bodies and minds as anger forms. These hands-on activities encourage communication, self-reflection, and creativity, as children are guided step-by-step to investigate their emotions, recognize and identify feelings and needs, and practice, and ultimately shift, negative reactions. I highly recommend this interactive book, and applaud with gratitude Snowden’s support of self-awareness, connectivity, and compassion.”―J. Robin Albertson-Wren, parent, teacher, mindfulness instructor, public speaker, and co-author of Mindfulness for KidsSAMANTHA SNOWDEN has worked with teens, families, and adults from all over the world for over 10 years. Samantha has worked with some of the most prestigious and effective youth empowerment programs, including the EduCare Foundation, Insight Seminars, UCLA Community Based Learning Program, and many more. She also completed a certificate in mindfulness facilitation from the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center and trained with Mindful Schools and Inner Kids.

The Anger Management Workbook for Kids offers kid-friendly exercises and interactive activities to feel happier, calmer, and take control of anger.

Everyone gets angry, but teaching kids how to respond to anger is what really matters. The Anger Management Workbook for Kids offers fun, interactive activities to help kids handle powerful emotions for a lifetime of healthy behavioral choices.

From drawing a picture of what anger looks like to building a vocabulary for communicating feelings, the activities in this workbook give kids ages 6-12 the skills to understand and talk about anger habits and triggers. With this foundation, kids will learn positive and proactive strategies to deal with anger through gratitude, friendliness, and self-kindness.

At home, school, or with friends, the Anger Management Workbook for Kids equips kids to take control of anger, with:

  • A close look at anger that helps kids and parents identify habits and triggers, and recognize how anger feels to them.
  • Interactive exercises that provide a fun format for learning how to communicate feelings, needs, and wants to take control of angry outbursts.
  • Feel-good habits that help kids develop better responses to anger by cultivating self-kindness, joy, and appreciation.

Anger is a regular emotion just like joy, sadness, and fear―but sometimes anger acts bossy. Give your kids to the power to say STOP to anger with the Anger Management Workbook for Kids.

Helping kids find their way This helpful workbook is destined to be used by many counselors and parents as it covers a wide spectrum of issues. It’s a tool that will likely get repeated use, and it keeps mindfulness in the background as it helps adults work towards solutions and/or develop strategies. Each section begins with an introduction that provides insights for adults, followed by three to five exercises for kids. Although each exercise has spaces where answers can be written and pictures drawn, it’s likely many of these will be conducted orally, as counselors decide what’s appropriate for each situation. Some representative examples of the sections include: What Else Can Anger Be, with corresponding exercises on getting to know fear, sadness, and disappointment; and Who Makes Me Feel Angry, with four sections that include When Things Get Hard at Home, and Conflicts at School.Parents who purchase this book may find it provides insights into situations they are seeing at home. In some cases, simply being able to recognize the issue(s) is useful and act upon it may be enough, but in other cases the questions may help to highlight an underlying cause or to suggest a situation is escalating and professional help would be useful. Any tool that helps adults support a child’s emotional development is useful, provided it is adapted to individual cases. Author Samantha Snowden has a master’s degree in clinical and educational psychology and extensive experience.Great workbook My daughter is suffering from anger issues from a divorce. This workbook is amazing and is truly helping her get through a tough time. It's a big workbook, identifies and defines anger and also has activities where the child has to define exactly how they feel, identify to them what anger looks like, what color it is. I love this workbook and can't recommend this enough. If you have a child with anger or going through a tough time, this workbook is truly amazing!Great tool My son has had really bad anger and rage issues for the last 2 years. We have tried pretty much everything from calming techniques, contact sports, counseling, etc. Nothing seemed to even slightly help. However we have seen a dramatic improvement since using this workbook. We are only on the 5th activity but he is starting to recognize his anger more and enjoys working in it. I can tell you the first time we told him about it and the first activity sheet was a very very rough go. I am excited to see how he will be at the end of the entire workbook.Personally I think the book looks super cool, fun to work through and very colorful and kid friendly. Great teacher about anger and even explains it in a biological way
