Title: The Care and Keeping of You Pdf The Body Book for Younger Girls, Revised Edition (American Girl Library)
Author: Valorie Lee Schaefer
Published Date: 2013-02-26

Our best-selling body book for girls just got even better! With all-new illustrations and updated content for girls ages 8 and up, it features tips, how-tos, and facts from the experts. (Medical consultant: Cara Natterson, MD.) You'll find answers to questions about your changing body, from hair care to healthy eating, bad breath to bras, periods to pimples, and everything in between. Once you feel comfortable with what's happening, you'll be ready to move on to the The Care & Keeping of You 2!

Read the book first to see if it is a good fit for your child I bought this for my daughter who currently is seven with the thought I would have it stored away until I felt like she was ready to start talking in more detail about puberty, maybe sometime in the next year or when she is eight. I developed on the earlier side, as did my mother, so I am anticipating she may start pre-puberty in the next year or so. I am so glad I decided to read through the book before showing it to her because I have decided to return it and look for something else. As another reviewer mentioned, this book has a lot of content that could actually CAUSE insecurities about her body rather than prevent them. What I like about the book:It is simply written and easy for a younger girl to understand. It talks about puberty in a mostly positive way. It has fun illustrations that would appeal to my daughter and does talk about all bodies being different and so on, BUT…What I DON’T like about the book:As of now my daughter has a very positive self/body image. She is very comfortable in the skin she is in. From my observations, most girls in the target age of this book, 8-11, haven’t quite gotten the message yet that they should be looking critically at their own bodies or judge others for how they look. If they read this book, though, they WILL be exposed to these concepts. While my daughter does have a positive self-image at the moment and we have worked hard to cultivate that, I also know (and remember) how fragile that can be at the tween stage and the power of suggestion is huge at this age. Here are some examples:My daughter has a beautiful speckling of freckles across her nose. Most people around her have commented that they love them. SHE loves them. She said to me a few months ago that she wished she had MORE freckles. In this book, on page 36: “I have freckles. I hate them and wish I could get some lotion that would make my freckles go away. I need help!” While she loves her freckles, I could see reading this she may start to question how she feels about them. I could imagine her thinking, “Wait, are freckles considered to be ugly?”Page 50-51, three questions are about girls’ insecurities of having a flat chest, then this one: “I have bigger boobs than all of my friends. Because of this, my friends are embarrassed to be around me because they think I’m very ugly and fat. I used to be very popular, but now I find myself dorky and lonely.” Yikes! Really?? I developed breasts earlier than my friends and was definitely insecure about them, wearing large shirts, etc., but NEVER did I ever think my friends wouldn’t like me because of them. The message that people may not like you because of anything having to do with your physical appearance is horrible. I know it is rampant in our culture, but I really would like to keep my young daughter from being exposed to this idea as long as I can. I realize the book is trying to prevent these kinds of thoughts, but the question in itself may get girls wondering and thinking about these things, not to mention re-enforcing the message that if you are fat, you are unlikable. In the same vain, pages 62-63, titled Body Talk, all four questions from girls are about how other girls are thinner; how to stay thin; how to get thinner; and comparing your own body to your friends'. Talk about re-enforcing the idea that thin is ideal! I know the answers talk about all bodies being different and not to compare yourself, but these questions themselves might get our daughters thinking about whether they are thin enough and that it is normal to compare their bodies to their friends'. Yes, I realize she will face these issues at some point. I just feel there is no need to get these thoughts going at such an early age. This is getting so long, but just know there are other parts in the book talking about comparing yourself to others physically; calling someone pizza face because of acne; insecurities if you haven’t gotten your period yet and are not considered a “woman” like your friends, etc. Again, I know that these are presented as questions and the book is telling the girls not to do those things or feel these ways, but the power of suggestion is so strong.I wish there was a simple book about bodily changes/puberty which I could read to an eight year old girl without going in to explicit details about sex. This book would be much better if it just stuck to the facts about physical changes during puberty, how to take care of yourself, etc. and left out the question/answer section. The questions seem more appropriate for the second book for older girls (if even), not the target age of this book. I saw one recommendation in another review for "Reaching for the Moon," by Lucy H. Pearce. I will try that and then leave an update here.Beyond angry. Thanks for a bookful of insecurity for my 8yo. I bought this book to read with my 8yo daughter. She paged through it a bit before we started, I thought nothing of it. A few days later at the table she said something about "watching her weight." We were floored. We don't talk like that and have no body hang ups. We addressed it but were really concerned about the source.Today we started reading it. The introduction immediately talked about girls being awkward, confused, embarrassed, and "struggling to find words" to talk about their bodies. WHAT? Are you kidding me? She was none of those things but thanks for planting that in her mind. We stopped reading and I told her it probably wasn't the right book for us. After she went to bed I turned to the chapter titled "Belly Zone." Now we see exactly where she got the idea that she should start to "worry abut her weight." More gems on the page? fad diets, "normal" weight, "where's your waist?," and talking to your doctor about going on a diet. This book is supposed to be for 8+. Shameful garbage. I am so beyond angry. This book could make your daughter start having confidence issues I have never written a review before but feel compelled to warn parents that this book could make your daughter start having confidence issues. The first page talks about how you may be embarrassed by parts of your body (my daughter is not so why introduce that idea at the ripe old age of 9?). Then on the page about wearing glasses (which my daughter does proudly and considers fashionable) it talks about how you may feel like a dork or people might make fun of you in your glasses. No thanks. She's not reading this book and now I'm searching for one that provides this type of information in a more positive manner.

Title: Company of One Pdf Why Staying Small Is the Next Big Thing for Business
Author: Paul Jarvis
Published Date: 2019
Page: 249
What if the real key to a richer and more fulfilling career was not to create and scale a new start-up, but rather, to be able to work for yourself, determine your own hours, and become a (highly profitable) and sustainable company of one? Suppose the better—and smarter—solution is simply to remain small? This book explains how to do just that.

Company of One is a refreshingly new approach centered on staying small and avoiding growth, for any size business. Not as a freelancer who only gets paid on a per piece basis, and not as an entrepreneurial start-up that wants to scale as soon as possible, but as a small business that is deliberately committed to staying that way. By staying small, one can have freedom to pursue more meaningful pleasures in life, and avoid the headaches that result from dealing with employees, long meetings, or worrying about expansion. Company of One introduces this unique business strategy and explains how to make it work for you, including how to generate cash flow on an ongoing basis.

Paul Jarvis left the corporate world when he realized that working in a high-pressure, high profile world was not his idea of success. Instead, he now works for himself out of his home on a small, lush island off of Vancouver, and lives a much more rewarding and productive life. He no longer has to contend with an environment that constantly demands more productivity, more output, and more growth.

In Company of One, Jarvis explains how you can find the right pathway to do the same, including planning how to set up your shop, determining your desired revenues, dealing with unexpected crises, keeping your key clients happy, and of course, doing all of this on your own.

The One Book You Must Read in 2019 If you're constantly stressed out, feel like you're always behind, and not #hustling the way you should be...read this book. It's the clarity and assurance you need to know that it doesn't have to feel this way, and success CAN be defined differently. I loved this book and it's practical, actionable advice around a shift in thinking about the way we view work and business-building. It was a fast read, well-written, and I found it utterly refreshing.Concept is good, but the book has a lot of fluff The benefit of this book is that it gives you permission to embrace the notion of "company of one." I think hearing a 15 min interview on the topic by the author is more valuable than reading this. For example, I don't need to hear for the 100th time about Google's policy of allowing employees time to work on pet projects (something mentioned on two occasions in the first part of the book).Better, Not Bigger Paul wouldn't know it, but I'm one of his poster children.Four years ago I leaped into becoming my own company of one as an author and editor. I knew how to write and how to edit, but I didn't know how to run a business.A friend who'd just made the same leap highly recommended an online course I "absolutely had to take." That course was Paul Jarvis's Creative Class. I attribute my business's continued success to having taken that course. So, I was thrilled to see "Company of One" coming soon.I read it in a few days. It's accessible and full of encouraging stories from other companies of one, including Paul's own story. The book also provides plenty of arguments for why the company of one strategy—better, not bigger—may be the right fit for you.Lastly, two quotes from the end may tell you if this book is for you:"Enough is the antithesis of growth. Enough is the true north of building a company of one, and the opposite of the current paradigm promoting entrepreneurship, growth-hacking, and a startup culture.""Business success does not lie in growing something quickly and massively, but rather in building something that's both remarkable and resilient over the long term."Thanks to Paul, I've built a company of one that's so far proven resilient. Now, with the advice and encouragement of "Company of One," I hope to make it remarkable.

Title: The Line Between Pdf A Novel
Author: Tosca Lee
Published Date: 2019-01-29
Page: 384

"VERDICT: Lee's perfectly crafted dystopian thriller will keep readers up all night and have them begging for a sequel." (Library Journal (Starred Review))"A tight, fast-paced thriller, with a winding, twisty plot and an intrepid protagonist." (Booklist)"[A] moving dystopian thriller... Lee gets readers to invest in the characters, particularly her well-defined and sympathetic lead."  (Publishers Weekly)“THE LINE BETWEEN blurs the line between science fiction and terrifying real science. Tosca Lee gives us a cautionary tale that is beautifully written and deeply unnerving!”  (Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of V-WARS and PATIENT ZERO)"The perfect blend of spellbinding and heart stopping, The Line Between is an absolute must-read. Tosca whips up a thriller that is emotionally wrenching yet utterly believable, the kind of story that is sure to leave readers breathless and begging for more." (Nicole Baart, New York Times bestselling author)"Everything you want in a thriller: suspense, intrigue and best of all, a truly captivating protagonist to cheer on. Throw in a white-knuckled race from Chicago to Colorado over backroads that this author obviously and respectfully knows well. This one's a slam-dunk that'll keep you reading, non-stop until the very last sentence."  (Alex Kava, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author)"A fast-paced and deeply human story.  Tosca Lee has put together a terrifying apocalyptic scenario, made all the more real through the eyes of a protagonist who comes to life on the page." (Patrick Lee, New York Times bestselling author of RUNNER)“Relevant and frighteningly real, The Line Between is an infectiously good read. Be prepared to lose sleep.”   (Brenda Novak, NYT and USA Today Bestselling Author of FACE OFF)"An utterly immersive tale of apocalyptic cult manipulation and all-too-possible infectious epidemics, this story will have readers holding their breath on every page and dearly wishing for their own basement survivalist shelter. Perfect, chilling entertainment." (Lydia Kang, bestselling author of A Beautiful Poison)"An edge-of-your-seat, nonstop, apocalyptic rollercoaster of a thriller! As only she can, Tosca Lee pulls the reader in and refuses to let go until the final heart-pounding page!" (J.D. Barker, International Bestselling Author of The Fourth Monkey) Tosca Lee is the award-winning New York Times bestselling author of The Progeny, Firstborn, Iscariot, The Legend of Sheba, Demon: A Memoir, Havah: The Story of Eve, and the Books of Mortals series with New York Times bestseller Ted Dekker. She received her BA in English and International Relations from Smith College. A lifelong adventure traveler, Tosca makes her home in the Midwest with her husband and children.

In this frighteningly believable thriller from New York Times bestselling author Tosca Lee, an extinct disease re-emerges from the melting Alaskan permafrost to cause madness in its victims. For recent apocalyptic cult escapee Wynter Roth, it’s the end she’d always been told was coming.

When Wynter Roth is turned out of New Earth, a self-contained doomsday cult on the American prairie, she emerges into a world poised on the brink of madness as a mysterious outbreak of rapid early onset dementia spreads across the nation.

As Wynter struggles to start over in a world she’s been taught to regard as evil, she finds herself face-to-face with the apocalypse she’s feared all her life—until the night her sister shows up at her doorstep with a set of medical samples. That night, Wynter learns there’s something far more sinister at play and that these samples are key to understanding the disease.

Now, as the power grid fails and the nation descends into chaos, Wynter must find a way to get the samples to a lab in Colorado. Uncertain who to trust, she takes up with former military man Chase Miller, who has his own reasons for wanting to get close to the samples in her possession, and to Wynter herself.

Filled with action, conspiracy, romance, and questions of whom—and what—to believe, The Line Between is a high-octane story of survival and love in a world on the brink of madness.

Beautifully Crafted Story Tosca Lee once again crafts a story that keeps you breathlessly turning pages until the very end. And then it leaves you wanting more.We meet Wynter Roth in the middle of her story - she's being forcibly removed from The Enclave, the home of the cult known as New Earth. She leaves with one goal in mind - to return and rescue her sister Jaclyn and Jaclyn's daughter Truly. There's just one problem - Jaclyn is married to the leader of New Earth, a man named Magnus. And he's the one kicking Wynter out into the world that he has taught his followers to fear. Thankfully, she's barely past the boundary of New Earth when she is met by an old family friend, Julie, who is determined to help Wynter get her bearings. Julie and her husband Ken let Wynter move into the apartment over their garage and they make arrangements for her to see a therapist when she becomes overwhelmed by all the sudden change in her life. The outside world is a strange place to Wynter. She's never used a smart phone, watched television, or "surfed" the internet. And the world she's entered is facing a serious problem that is only just becoming apparent. Numerous people are struggling with what seems to be an early-onset form of dementia and the doctors are baffled as to the cause. Especially because it seems to be contagious. To make matters worse, the power is going out and the gas stations are running out of fuel. Outside forces using the health scare to their advantage perhaps?Beautifully weaving flashbacks together with Wynter's current experiences, Lee takes the reader on an emotional ride through the events that led to Wynter's expulsion from the Enclave and places her squarely at the center of a national health crisis. She reconnects with a former cult member that had supposedly died and even gets a chance to see her sister (outside of the Enclave) who entrusts her with the monumental task of transporting precious cargo that could hold the answer to curing the epidemic that is sweeping the nation. Along the way, she meets Chase, a former Marine who makes it his personal mission to help Wynter make her very important trip (once he forces the truth out of her, that is). And that former cult member? She introduces Wynter and Chase to Noah who has gone to great lengths to provide a safe, secure hideaway for just the type of crisis currently taking place.Underlying all of this is Wynter's own personal struggle to figure out just what or who is worth believing in. As a child, Wynter's faith in Magnus and his teaching was firm and unwavering. In her adult years, she learns things about Magnus that cause her to question everything she once believed. So is she really sorry to be leaving when Magnus casts her out? And just exactly how does Jaclyn, the wife of The Prophet, come into possession of items that could prove invaluable to the CDC in treating and stopping what is shaping up to be a pandemic?A Page-Turner--A Bit of an Acquired Taste, Though The Line Between is one of those odd books that captures me in some ways and repels me in others, so I rated it right in the middle.Tosca Lee knows how to keep the pages turning; at various points, I did not want to put the book down. Her plot moves along at a great clip without being exhausting. It strikes me as a mix of The Handmaid's Tale and more modern books about the end of the world, such as One Second After. Seeing cataclysmic events through the eyes of a former cult member was also a good choice. Wynter does not just believe the chaos and epidemic of rapid early onset dementia is the end of the world. She knows it, because she's had it drilled into her head for fifteen years that something like this will happen. That creates some heavy psychological and spiritual tension I wish Tosca had capitalized on more (I'll get to that). The conflicts of The Line Between's plot drew me with their uniqueness. For instance, here, it's not foreign terrorists threatening to destroy America--it's bioterror in the form of a highly contagious disease. Serious illness and the dark side of the medical world are among my biggest fears, so I definitely had a vested interest in seeing if everyone would be okay. I also appreciated the twist Tosca threw in about 70% into the book, wherein Wynter must run for more than her life. The Line Between does have some problems. First, because this is such an action-driven story, the characters often feel two-dimensional. Some, like Magnus, feel stereotypical. Not that an evil cult leader with serial wives isn't a good threat. It is, partially because people like Magnus do exist and make their livings deceiving and destroying vulnerable people. But between Jim Jones, David Koresh, Warren Jeffs, and various documentaries and iterations on Dr. Phil--well, we've seen it. A lot. I would have liked some kind of twist, some special element, that set Wynter's experience apart from the rest. I also craved more about Wynter, Jaclyn, Chase, and the others--deeper looks into their emotions, motivations, spirituality, and so forth.Spirituality is another problem. I love a Christian book that makes the Christian element subtle, and Tosca delivers. However, I didn't get the sense that any of these characters were putting their hope in God (the real one) or trying to find Him. Wynter does a little bit, but I wanted so much more. Tosca gives her a good setup, in that she's dealing with religious PTSD, so naturally, she's going to be cagey about anything to do with God, Jesus, faith, etc. But then that tension fizzles in the face of the action. I understand, and maybe Tosca will cover it more in the next book, but...meh. Tosca also took a bit of a risk letting a few characters curse and say or do things a lot of Christian readers will not like. It pans out, sort of, but did we need it? Not sure...Overall, this book is probably more a 3.5, and I'm glad I read it. I could've used a lot more character and spiritual depth, but if you like plot-driven stories, this is probably one of the better ones out there. If nothing else, it will make you think.

Whiskey in a Teacup Pdf

ISBN: B07BS357SH
Title: Whiskey in a Teacup Pdf

Academy award-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon invites you into her world, where she infuses the Southern style, parties, and traditions she loves with contemporary flair and charm.

Reese Witherspoon's grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women "whiskey in a teacup". We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we're strong and fiery.

Reese's Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea's fried chicken. It's reflected in how she entertains, decorates her home, and makes holidays special for her kids - not to mention how she talks, dances, and does her hair (in this audiobook, you will learn Reese's fail-proof, only slightly insane hot-roller technique). Reese loves sharing Dorothea's most delicious recipes as well as her favorite Southern traditions, from midnight barn parties to backyard bridal showers, magical Christmas mornings to rollicking honky-tonks.

It's easy to bring a little bit of Reese's world into your home, no matter where you live. After all, there's a Southern side to every place in the world, right?

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

It's like comfort food for the soul, southern style. I love Reese so was so excited to get this book and I wasn't disappointed! It's a large coffee table style book that's full of recipes, beautiful photos and sweet memories. The inside cover is lined in what reminded me of my grandmother's old wallpaper lol, I loved it!!After reading this book you'll want to cuddle up and watch steel magnolias with some warm biscuits and a big glass of iced sweet tea. I hope Reese does a novel next, I bet it would be great.Whiskey in a Teacup Review Instantly, I was smitten with Whiskey in a Teacup. Reading it is like cheerfully walking down Familiar Lane; pleasant and homey with an emphasis on family and the good times. It reminds me of a single volume of an annual subscription of Southern Living Magazine through the life and eyes of Reese Witherspoon. She gives family recipes (which I always appreciate) and party menu lists for year round celebratory occasions. Do I want to have a Kentucky Derby Party complete with pretty dresses and oversized hats? Yes, I do. And I want to serve Reese’s suggested Mint Juleps and Chocolate Derby Pecan Pie. She includes entertaining anecdotes from her childhood and endearing memories of her grandparents, mom, brother, family and friends. She made me want to put on my pearl necklace and get a dog. Reese had me reminiscing about my own grandparents’ huge garden and my grandpa’s work habits, from dawn to dusk even after retirement. In such a BFF kind of way, Reese takes her personal sharing even further- by suggesting music play lists for events like a “Southern Party” and road trips. She gives instructions for how to use hot rollers, and diagrams for how to set casual, as well as, formal table settings (with clever ways to remember). She gives hostess tips, attendee advice, flea market strategies, book reading suggestions, and gift ideas for a variety of occasions. I too love monograms Reese! It is an art under-appreciated in the north, and so is wall paper, soul sister.Wow! This book is my favorite!! So, I preordered the book months ago and just received it today! I was surprised how well done the book is. There are lots of beautiful pictures and fun topics to read. Seriously, LOTS of great information! This book is NOT another "celebrity" book. Yes, I love Reese Witherspoon, but I really believe you don't have to be her big fan to enjoy this book. I highly recommend this book for all women!!

Title: The Living Kitchen Pdf Healing Recipes to Support Your Body During Cancer Treatment and Recovery
Author: Tamara Green
Published Date: 2019-01-22
Page: 280

Advance Praise for The Living Kitchen by Tamara Green and Sarah Grossman“The Living Kitchen is just what cancer patients and their caregivers need. If you or a loved one has just been diagnosed with cancer and you want to know what you should eat, look no further. This step-by-step guide will put your fears at ease and provide you with truly delicious, healing foods to eat during every phase of your journey.” —Kelly Turner, PhD, New York Times bestselling author of Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds“The Living Kitchen is a well-researched book and a most welcome alternative for cancer patients and caregivers. It’s a useful resource for anyone with cancer or for anyone who will be helping to provide meals for someone with cancer.”—Dr. Ellen Warner, MD, medical oncologist, Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Research Institute and professor of medicine, University of Toronto“The Living Kitchen is a beautiful and important book. With recipes backed in real science that don’t disregard elegance and flavor in favor of their therapeutic properties, this is must-have for anyone on a cancer journey. It’s mouthwatering but more so, it’s filled with empathy and a real understanding of the various types of hardship cancer brings on. Armed with this book, you’ll feel comforted, satiated, and (perhaps) even filled with pleasure during one of life’s most difficult times.”—Liz Moody, Food Director of mindbodygreen and author of Healthier Together“The Living Kitchen brought me to tears, not because of the tenderness and brilliance that fill each page, and not because of the deliciousness of the recipes—but because I immediately saw how much easier it would have made my mother’s life (and my own, as one of her primary caregivers) during her battle with cancer. Here is a book that gives those healing, and their families, that most sought-after of gifts during an illness: immediate, tangible, and practical support.”—Lily Diamond, author of Kale & Caramel“There is no question that after undergoing a major cancer surgery and reconstruction, patients who are systematically well nourished heal faster and suffer fewer wound complications than those deficient. In today’s era of empowering patients to make cancer-related treatment decisions for themselves, The Living Kitchen serves as an important guide. The topics of ‘what can I eat after a cancer diagnosis?’ and ‘what foods may help me during wound healing after surgery?’ commonly arise with my patients.
